Happy Birthday, DH
I'm starting to hate technology, or at least TypePad. I keep trying to create a new category, only to have my computer lock up. I created a post yesterday, only to lose it when I did a spell check. Aargh.
Anyway. This weekend, we celebrated DH's birthday. He thinks he's getting old. I think he's getting finer, just like wine. And I figure he has to wait until he's 85 to say that he's old. And then, he'll look back on these days and think about how he should have enjoyed his youth. At least that's how I try to look at things, even though I feel old lately, too.
My parents came over to help us celebrate. We went out to dinner at a reasonably nice place on Saturday evening. DD behaved herself, though she didn't eat very much. She really is a petite kid. Even though she just turned two, she still wears 18-24 month clothes. I think if she ever developed an appetite, she might catch up clothes-wise. But, I digress.
The only thing that DH wanted for his birthday was a bunch of shirts. Apparently, he has worn out the collar points of all of his good shirts. So, I went to one of those big box stores and bought him eight shirts (20% off with a coupon, and 15% more for opening a charge account -- yippee!). My parents gave him two, DD gave him two, and I gave him four. And he liked all of them, which was quite a surprise to me. I offered to take any of them back that didn't suit his fancy, but he insisted that he didn't want any of them returned.
I didn't wrap them, but I did put them all in shirt boxes. DD brought them over to him, box by box. She was pretty excited about it. Afterward, I gave him one of DD's cupcakes with a candle on it (DD has been hooked on cupcakes for dessert lately). DH wouldn't tell us what he wished for because he didn't want to spoil the wish; I hope that it was something that will make him happy.
Afterward, we all talked for awhile and then went inside. DD took her bath with grandma watching. I think that gives her a lot of pleasure and allows her to go back in time to when she had little ones that were naked in the bath. DD is so much fun to watch; it's just like seeing pure joy in action. You know, when she was very small, she really, really hated getting wet. Now, she's just the opposite.
Later, DH and my father watched "Patton," though my dad slept through most of it. I talked with my mom while DD nursed herself to sleep. I was exhausted, and we finally all went to bed. At the princely hour of 10:00.
The next day, DD woke us up bright and early for breakfast. We went to a popular chain restaurant. Afterward, we went to our little town's "art in the park" exhibition of local artists. I thought most of the things were too expensive. (I mean, c'mon, $125 for a jacket with some lace sewn on? Puh-lease.) None of us bought anything, but DD got to play in the park with DH and my father while my mother and I shopped.
My parents went home shortly after we got home from the art fair. DD, who has been constipated lately, managed to poop three times on Sunday. DD kept insisting that DH should change her diaper (she wants him to do everything for her lately), but DH said that the best birthday present he could get would be to not have to change those particular diapers.
My, how our sights fall when we become parents. I bet DH never once thought that his birthday wishes would have anything to do with poop!
